In July 2012, Rough Guides selected Ecommnet to support the rebuild of www.roughguides.com . The project aim was to significantly improve the brand’s online presence with focus on building a content-rich website as part of a simplified, user-friendly site and more engaging website. Ecommnet were responsible for the coding, build, implementation and testing.

  • Ecommnet are responsive to communication, with tickets and/or emails being picked up either immediately for high priority issues and within 24 hours for low priority issues.
  • Ecommnet understood the context of the website requirements and created solutions proportionally to the commercial value of the problem development was solving.
  • Communication from Ecommnet is tailored to the audience, notably with sufficient technical detail for Product Managers and sufficient strategic focus for senior internal stakeholders.

Ecommnet have continued to demonstrate the required architecture and engineering expertise to handle all product areas including performance, architecture, responsive design and security. Key contacts have been Scott Salisbury and Gavin Williams who hold themselves to best coding practice, which is self-evident in the performance of the work built.

Given the growth achieved since 2013 (from 200,000 to 2,400,000 monthly visitors) there has been a need to go back and optimise some areas of the website, however with such growth this is expected.

Since the relaunch of www.roughguides.com in 2013, the monthly visits have reached 2,400,000 from a starting point of 200,000. This growth has been achieved through a cross-functional team effort of which Ecommnet have formed an integral part, providing their development and build expertise.

As a web professional with significant experience working alongside agencies, I recommend Ecommnet without hesitation. All website launches and rebuilds require compromise in order to handle business deadlines and pressures. Ecommnet have worked proactively at all times in the best interest of DK, and so under those pressures the quality of our partnership has ensured the best outcome for the project.

Margam Logo

I worked with Ecommnet for the concept development and consequent production of the ‘Discover Margam’ App.

This was an App for Park visitors to use to explore and learn more on a visit to Margam Country Park- a 1000 acre Country Park in south wales with an annual visitor footfall of approx 250 000.

The Ecommnet team worked extremely well throughout the process – at all times ensuring they fully understood the brief and the numerous changes and adaptations that were made along the way.

They were impressive as they were happy to try new methods in producing the App. Resulting in one CMS that was able to populate both android and apple platforms.

At all times they were extremely conscientious replying to all queries on the same day – and were very patient in dealing with ‘not so tech savvy’ customers.

I’ve known and worked with Ecommnet for over a decade having been introduced through a mutual contact who recommended them for their security consultancy. Since then I have contracted them at a number of different organisations to assist in providing security consultancy and related infrastructure and over the last 4 years application development especially within the Mobile App / Responsive website arena.

The latest two projects in particular have been of great success, with products being developed and delivered within agreed time and budget but in particular have fostered a highly collaborative working environment between Ecommnet and my current organisation. The engagement from inception through design, development, release and testing has been managed impeccably with Ecommnet following an Agile Approach and both parties using collaboration tools to good effect. Ecommnet has never been shy of coming up with new ideas and input into the projects, many of which have been incorporated into the finished product. Adopting industry best practice while also keeping an eye on future and cutting edge development practices, tools and design brings a modern touch and input into projects leading to competitive advantage.

In terms of support Ecommnet have been second to none, often going beyond what they are contracted to deliver, always maintaining the human touch (often lost in a world of digital delivery) and liaising with 3rd parties where required, deputising as my own IT department to resolve issues or incidents on a pro-active basis.

I’ve nothing but praise for Robert and the team and despite their long trading history have seen how they have maintained a strong, exciting and invigorating culture of success within their business which, for me, having had 20 years in application development is often more important than pure technical capability as it’s this consultative and empathetic approach which extracts the requirements from non-IT staff to enable Ecommnet to design and deliver a stronger better product.

Smart Raspberry Cookery School provides after-school clubs, workshops and children’s parties. We aim to teach children how to cook for themselves and others in a fun, hands-on environment.

Ecommnet redesigned and built our website, including introducing an online booking feature and events calendar.

Since the redevelopment of www.smartraspberry.com we have had great feedback from our customers and we have seen a significant increase in both new and returning traffic to our website. This is no doubt due to the team’s superb design work, and because Scott and Gavin really listened to our brief and specific needs, for what is a reasonably niche business model. Throughout the process the Ecommnet team have been friendly, flexible and a pleasure to work with.

Squashed Tomato Logo

Squashed Tomato is an on-line retailer of greeting cards and gifts and has worked with Ecommnet for 6 years.

In January 2015 they designed and rebuilt our website.  Ecommnet work in a very collaborative manner, they took the time to listen carefully to our ideas and requirements and to fully understand Squashed Tomato’s whole business.  They were then able to not only meet the remit but to also contribute valid, informed suggestions to further enhance the website’s contribution to our business.  At their suggestion our site has a hidden shopping cart facility that we could easily add at any point.

Although the site is short and initially appears simple, the Card Club area is complex and functionally challenging.  In the Card Club customers interactively choose different products for a quarterly delivery of greeting cards paid for by setting up a Direct Debit Instruction.  They can re-visit anytime to change their selection or bank payment details.  Scott Salisbury at Ecommnet was able to interpret this complex request into a customer friendly, flexible year planner grid.  They also took great care with the highly regulated Direct Debit generation area to ensure it met all legal wording and requirements.

I had a significant input in the visual design of the website but the clarity of the final website is with thanks to Gavin Williams who has a great eye for design.  He is also strong at breaking down technical speak into layman’s terms.  The Squashed Tomato CM area is simple and easy to use.

I highly recommend Ecommnet as a website partner.  Robert Campbell has built a strong team who are professional and friendly to work with.  Communication is very good; they listen as well as inform and obviously communicate well between the team too.  Scott Salisbury is exceptionally good at turning complex challenges into something straightforward and ran the Squashed Tomato project very efficiently.  Gavin William’s design input was invaluable.
